VR: How Thousands of Pigeons Became Art

Duke Riley’s massive public art project “Fly by Night,” with its thousands of pigeons, a naval carrier, and countless LED lights swirling through the air at dusk, was a subject that demanded a unique presentation. Virtual reality video was a perfect fit. I followed the project from its early stages to opening night, giving viewers an appreciation for the work behind the project and dropping them into the middle of the piece.

This 360-degree video accompanied a WSJ. Magazine profile of the project. If you’re watching on mobile, it’s best viewed in the Virtual Reality section of the (free) WSJ app.
